22C3 remarks

As every year the Chaos Computer Club organised a Chaos Communication Congress packed with talks, workshops and private discussions about freedom, information technology, cryptography, software, hacking, cracking, gadgets, art and more. It took place from December 27th to 30th in Berlin and provided the warm and friendly atmosphere usual for this this kind of meetings. In the beginning there was some trouble with the wireless network, but this was solved quickly so we internet addicted people had no reason t panic.

I was mainly in the Hackcenter and listened personally only to some of the talks but as a new feature the talks were available as streams so I could followed them there. Joi Ito keynote was fabulous pointing out the importance of free speech, anonymity and open access to the net. There a are different groups interested in reducing all this and we have to take care that they don't do so.

If you are interested you can download the videos of the talks from the CCC ftp server or get them via bittorrent. Usually it take a while until they are available but you can find already some stream dumps at this ftp server.

Thanks a lot to everyone who contributed to this great congress!

BTW: I personally liked the "experiment" of asking people to smoke outside and it seemed to work quite well.

Germany (at least for Hackers) becomes more like the 'healthy ;) Green Isle to the West' , sending smokers outside.

Maybe next, they can try to survive without IDs.........

... unfortunately there are only some of those green islands in a dark sea of smoking places in Germany. And the tobacco industry seems to have good friends in the right place of Berlin, so we have to wait for a law banishing smoking in the public.
