Ajax desktop environments

EN: With ajaxOS and eyeOS the first examples of ajax desktop environments are available. To called them "OS" (operation systems) is in my opinion an exaggeration.

eyeOS is open-source software and can be installed on any web-server running php. There are quite some applications available and you can program your own ones, too. Hmm, I miss a shell so far ;)

EN: Just found Yahoo!'s Creativ Common Search. It only gives links to content published under a Creative Common license.

Zapping Blocker

EN: The Multimedia Home Platform is supposed to bring some new features to tv, but not all of them are meant to be good for the consumer (well, what ever usually good means for a tv consumer). This patent by Philips describes a method making it possible to prevent people or recording devices to change channel during advertisement.

I hope this patent will not be applied and if will not be accepted by consumers. Why should anybody buy a tv with this feature. Maybe it could be used for a new marketing strategy where you get the tv for free and have to watch the advertisement. But similar concepts have been applied (as far as I know) unsuccessfully to the computer business.

But be fair sometimes the advertiment seems to be better than the trashy shows. What ever, the easiest way to avoid this brainwashing is not watching tv.

GI gegen elektronischen Personalausweis

DE: Die Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. machte heute in einer Meldung deutlich, dass sie den Verkauf von Personalausweisdaten durch die Regierung ablehne. Nach Plan des Bundesministeriums des Innern sollen damit die Kosten des elektronische Personalausweises gedeckt werden. Es gibt reichlich weitere Kritik an dem neuen Ausweis.

Der Sprecher des GI-Arbeitkreises "Datenschutz und IT-Sicherheit" wird mit folgenden Worten zitiert: Es kann nicht Aufgabe der Regierung eines demokratisch verfassten Staates sein, Interessierten einen vollständigen und nicht mehr beherrschbaren Zugriff auf personenbezogene Daten seiner Bürger/innen zu ermöglichen oder auch nur zu erleichtern.

Wiki für die Wissenschaft

DE: Golem berichtete über Wikinger: Ein Wiki für die Wissenschaft. Das Fraunhofer Institut für Medienkommunikation entwickelt mometan dieses Wiki Next Generation Enhanced Repository, welche neben WIki-üblichen Eigenschaften auch Techniken des semantischen Netzes nutzt. Es soll eines Tage als Plattform für wissenschaftlichen Informationsspeicherung und Recherchen dienen.
